2012 Maestro Island Series German Spruce Indian Rosewood Tenor2

For fun, we’ve managed to get a reasonable sound setup (although not high fidelity!) so here are some sound bites for you to enjoy…

Shimo:

2012 New Surf Tenor Ukuele Koa
2012 Shimo New surf tenor koa
FC strings, high G.
Tasting notes:
This is a great ukulele, from one of Japan’s best luthiers. It has a lyrical voice which carries well and has the rare distinction of having a complex but clear overtone content. Highly recommended!

Maestro:

2012 Concert Ukuele Cedar | Pheasant Wood
2012 concert cedar pheasant wood
Aquilla Nylgut strings, high G.
Tasting notes:
The Cedar top imparts immediacy and warmth, the Pheasant wood, clarity. There is projection and complexity with a bell like tonality.

2012 Concert Ukuele Mango
2012 concert mango
Aquilla Nylgut strings, high G.
Tasting notes:
The figured mango is fabulous but is a serious tonewood with projection and but with a mellow undertone.

2012 Tenor Ukuele Cedar | Pheasant Wood
2012 tenor cedar pheasant
Aquilla Nylgut strings, high G.
Tasting notes:
The combination of cedar and Pheasant Wood is wonderful, there is projection and complexity with a bell like tonality from the Pheasant Wood which is appealing.

2012 Tenor Ukuele German Spruce | Java Rosewood
2012 tenor german indian
Aquilla Nylgut strings, high G.
Tasting notes:
This uke, with German Spruce and Indian Rosewood should be high on your list…. there is projection and complexity with a crisp tonality from the German Spruce.

Scott Wise:

Tenor Ukulele SN 461
wise tenor
Tasting notes:
All Australian Blackwood, very light construction with Aquilla Nylgut strings, wound low G.
A very lively, projecting tone. Complex voice for the timbre, I describe this uke as utterly alive.

Concert Ukulele SN 462
wise concert
Tasting notes:
All Australian Blackwood, very light construction with Aquilla Nylgut strings, high G.
A more protective tone than the tenor with a higher singing treble. Complex voice for the timbre, I describe this uke as utterly alive.

Moore Bettah:

Tenor Ukuele SN 1212
MB tenor
Tasting notes:
All Koa, light construction with Worth strings, low wound G.
I don’t think the recording does this uke enough justice, truth be told. The tone is more enveloping with greater complexity and deep soaring overtones. With a complex voice but great volume , I tend to describe this uke as sophisticated, complex and deeply engaging.

Barron River:

Tenor Ukuele Sitka | Paduak
barron river tenor spruce padauk
Platinium strings, high G.
Tasting notes:
It has a singing voice which carries well.
